The different faces
of the investment banking program

The concept of the investment banking program can have
several different meanings in the world of high finance.
It may be used to describe a training
program run by an investment bank or it could be applied to a
conference organized by a bank to explain the services they
offer to investors, corporations, municipal bodies and other
institutions seeking to raise capital.
Alternatively this term is used as part of a job description
and it can even be used to introduce the policy followed by a
certain bank.
Training courses
A number of colleges and banking institutes offer investment
banking programs to teach students about the investment
business and the range of opportunities available.
For example, a leading American university offers a program
aimed at students who are already studying for a
finance-related degree. Students who register receive
individual coaching as a preparation for a summer internship in
an investment bank. In addition to the internship, training in
financial modeling and visits to investment banks in New York
and Chicago are added attractions.
Australian students interested in making their career in
investment banking can register for a four month program
leading to a specialist certificate in investment banking. This
program includes classes on management buy out transactions,
how to advise clients about private equity, and how to develop
skills in public listings.
Many more examples of these degree and training courses are
available throughout the developed world.
Conferences
There are also many instances of investment banking programs
that are designed to enhance the skills of established bankers
as opposed to teaching aspiring bankers. Amongst the range of
subjects commonly presented and debated at these conferences
are reviews of current developments in the economy or in a
certain sectors, corporate recovery strategies and investment
banking efforts.
Investment bank jobs and banking
policies
The investment banking program specialist is a relatively
new job description in high finance. A number of senior
investment banking managers with years of experience advertise
their services in this manner as specialists in real estate
investments, business statistics, securities investments and
many other investment-related fields.
The corporate and investment banking associate is also used
as a recognized job title in the capital markets, and with an
advertised salary of $100,000 it ranks as one of the more
junior investment banking positions.
Investment banks also sometimes use the term “program” when
publicizing their policy of delivering services to a certain
business sector, and the high trading and ethical standards
they apply to their clients.
